Oyo Chieftancy Law Review: Ibadan Mogajis To Meet Makinde Soon – Oladoja
.. Not Eroding Tradition And Culture Of Ibadanland, Oyo, Others

Monday May 15, 2023

Contrary to insinuations in some quarters that the proposed bill sent to the Oyo State House of Assembly by the state Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde on the review of existing Chieftancy Law in the state, the exercise will by no means affect any culture or tradition.

The spokesperson, Authentic Mogajis of Ibadanland, Mogaji Olawale Oladoja stated this while addressing journalists on Sunday afternoon in Ibadan.

He said the bill is just a proposal by the state Governor which will still passed through the scrutiny of the state lawmakers.

He stated that Governor Makinde has no special interest in the affairs and running of traditional institution in any parts of the state.

Oladoja disclosed that Mogajis in Ibadan will soon meet with the state Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde to discuss pertinent issues concerning the law with him.

“As far as I’m concerned, Governor has no special interest in who becomes king or traditional leaders in any area of the state as far as the process is transparent, fair and credible.

Each time I’m with the Governor, what he cares so much is the general acceptability of the candidate. So the law is of no special interest to the Governor.”

Oladoja added that the major difference between the ongoing review and that of the former late Governor Abiola Ajimobi is that Makinde is following the due process while Ajimobi never followed any due process except using it to boost his political ego.
