Ringim Boat Mishap Claims Six Lives, 25 Missing, 9 Rescued, 4 Buried In Jigawa State

Grief has enveloped Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State following a tragic boat mishap that has claimed six lives and twenty five others declared missing. Governor Umar Namadi who led a funeral prayers for four of the six victims assured residents of decisive government action to prevent a recurrence.

On Sunday a boat conveying about forty passengers capsized while crossing the less than thirty metre-wide Malamawa River in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The tragic incident occurred Sunday afternoon.

Residents said that nine passengers were rescued alive, while six bodies have so far been recovered. Search and rescue operations are continuing.

Speaking during a condolence visit, Governor Umar Namadi sympathized with the Emir of Ringim, the bereaved families, and the entire people of the area over the unfortunate incident.

The Governor assured them that the Jigawa State Government would take all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies, including strengthening safety measures on inland waterways.

Rescue efforts by emergency responders and local volunteers are ongoing as authorities continue the search for the missing passengers.
