Obasanjo, The Greatest Enemy Of Abiola, Nigeria – Erubami
..I was in various Nigeria prison, twenty three times with Akintola

Monday May 15, 2023

A renowned human right activist and one time Coordinator, Campaign for Democracy, Nigeria, Comrade Mashood Erubami has described former Nigeria President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as one of the greatest enemy of late winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, Chief MKO Abiola.

Comrade Erubami stated this while featuring on the Yemi Sonde Saturday FM radio programme in Ibadan.

He disclosed that Obasanjo was selected by the Northern cabal to claim the 1993 mandate of Abiola in comformity with the desire of the Annulers of June 12 having discovered he had a deep hatred for the late business man while he was alive and in death.

He explained that even though Obasanjo is an Owu man and Abiola, Gbagura man, and they also attended same Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta in Ogun State, Obasanjo never hide his hatred for his kinsman.

“Abiola lost all to survival of Nigeria Democracy, he lost his wife, Kudirat, his business, choice property and most importantly, he laid his life for Nigeria to survive.

When Obasanjo was Nigeria’s President, I alongside some people including Alhaji Yekini Adeojo who we met at Aso Villa went to see Obasanjo. Adeojo was never part of us but because he wanted to see Obasanjo for a contract, and he was not allowed, I told him to join our team. On getting into the Villa, while I was speaking, Obasanjo got annoyed and told me to shut up, he asked me, what do you know about Democracy? He asked the people there my place of birth, and they told him, I’m from Abeokuta, on that point, he calmed his nerves.”

Erubami described Obasanjo as someone who is never happy with anyone that can match his achievements. “In 2003, Obasanjo called the six South West governors to a meeting and asked for their support for his re-election, not knowing he was only deceiving them. After the meeting, five governors accepted but only Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu rejected the proposal, while others lost the election, Tinubu went ahead to win his own election.”

Commenting on Buhari’s government, Erubami said President Mohammadu Buhari had good intentions for the nation but such was thwarted by people he appointed into position of authority.

“Many Nigerians were disappointed in Buhari’s government because of his failed approach to governance, even though he may have good intentions to serve but all its now going into dustbin of history.”

Also, Comrade Mashood Erubami disclosed that he alongside with Chief Niyi Akintola ( SAN) arrested and detained in various Nigeria Prisons for fighting the cause of the people.

On removal of subsidy, Erubami cautioned on the need to critically review the step before it is implemented. He urged Nigerians to have trust in the new leaders not minding the past experiences.
