Senate Replaces Senator Alli Ndume at Its Chief Whip

..elects Monguno

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has been removed from his position as Chief Whip.

Senator Tahir Monguno has been elected as his replacement.

The decision, made today, followed a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The letter was jointly signed by APC National Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje and National Secretary Barrister Bashir Ajibola. It recommended Ndume’s removal while affirming his continued membership in the ruling party.

The Senate President presented the request for a voice vote, which received unanimous support from all APC senators.

This marks the second time in 91 months that Ndume, who represents Borno South, has been removed from a principal officer position in the Senate. Previously, on January 10, 2017, during the 8th Senate, he was removed as Majority Leader and replaced by Senator Ahmad Lawan, who later became the President of the 9th Senate.
