Wednesday May 31, 2023
The President and Convener, Coalition for Democracy in Nigeria (CODIN), Comrade Mashood Erubami has condemned the uncared attitudes of many Nigerians to stand and fight for their rights on issues that put their social economic rights in jeopardy.
In a release through his media office and made available to journalists in Wednesday, Comrade Erubami called on Nigerians to effectively advocate for their rights
He stated that it is important for Nigerians to support the current government that is determined to make life better and create conducive social, economic as well as political environment for peaceful, secured and corrupt free existence across the nation.
The fiery human right activist said Nigerians must be in their guard to be able to work through the Agents of State who are bent on thwarting the pro-people measures on the sleeve of the Tinubu/Shettima progressive government.
He pin-pointed that there are serious issues with difficulties and government must be ready to also take very difficult and tough decisions so as to resolve the challenges inherited from the previous government.
“Those who created the excruciating social economic pains on the people in the past years are still in government and are still committed to guiding the present government to embark on the same backward integration that traumatized, dehumanized, impoverished and sentenced Nigerians into eternal poverty.
It is improper for Nigerian Voters to just file out during elections and vote for the leaders who will represent them in government without support to fight against al those that want to dethroned good governance which will ensures conducive and reconstructed political space for peaceful governance.
Comrade Erubami called on the critical sectors, Professionals, labour in the formal and informal sectors, Human rights and Civil Society, Representatives of faith based institutions to stand behind the new government to ensure that strong decisions needed to move Nigeria forward are taking and implemented without hindrance from the old order.
He noted that the decision to withdraw petroleum subsidy which has been a knotty economic adjustment and being seriously pushed by Capitalist Agents in government with support of the World Bank which has backed the subsidy withdrawal with $800m dollar is to make it attractive to outgoing government officials who has been on as the first landmine to be thrown at and forced down the throat of his administration.
The group warned that the follow-ups to the mere declaration made by President Bola Ahmed Tinibu on the possibility of removing petroleum subsidy should not be the first to be contemplated within the first one week as being strategize to turn the government against the people.
Erubami reminded the Government that subsidy is a social comfort presently being enjoyed by the people and should not be removed in a rush before the July time fixed for it.
“Nigerians will not accept the withdrawal of subsidy without them start to enjoy the well stated and acceptable palliatives that must precede its implementation.
He called on Tinubu’s government to be stern on his position to reject the attached loan from the World Bank and call all stakeholders to enlighten them on the rationale behind subsidy removal and what Nigerians stand to gain.
He added that it is imperative for government to also gain from the available alternative economic recovery programs.
