*Insecurity: Osun APC chides Adeleke for using Amotekun Corps to traumatize opposition members*

*…calls for immediate release of unlawfully arrested Chiefs in Ijesaland*

*…Urges IGP, NSA, others to wade in for Amotekun overhauling, disbandment*

Following the extra-judicial killings and unlawfully arrest of members of the opposition party- the All Progressives Congress, APC, the leadership of the party in Osun on Wednesday flayed Governor Ademola Adeleke for using Osun security network popularly called Amotekun Corps to terrorise and maim perceived members of the opposition party in the State.

The opposition party accused Governor Adeleke of gross misconduct and abuse of office since the inception of his administration just as it called for immediate release of unlawfully and illegally arrested Chiefs in Itaapa community of Atakumosa East Local Government Area of the state.

The APC leaders in the state further urged the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Director General of DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, and other security chiefs to come to their rescue before Amotekun unleash further chaos on the people of the state.

Addressing a Press Conference at the Ilerioluwa Campaign Office, Ogo-Oluwa Osogbo, the APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi lambasted the Adeleke’s government for promoting illegality and injustice.

Olabisi who berated the obnoxious legislation enacted by the State House of Assembly empowering the Corps to arrest, said for no reason whatsoever that the Corps enjoys the constitutional power to prosecute let alone detain a suspect for days in its custody as such amounts to flagrant disobedience to rule of law and social justice.

According to him, Osun Amotekun has become a controversial security outfit which should be outrightly disbanded or totally overhauled as the current crop of its leadership and membership are verifiable misfits, querying if Adekunle Omoyele, the Amotekun Corps Commandant has forgotten that the amended state law which established the state instrument of oppression has no prosecutory powers.

“The Osun Amotekun Corps are keeping many innocent citizens, majorly supporters of the APC, in their secretly-operated in a dingy Underground Cell in their headquarters at Power-line Area, Ikirun Road, Osogbo? Family members of some of the detainees are not aware of the ordeals of their loved ones in the hands of the Osun Amotekun Corps.

“A peep into the recent recruitment into the supposed internal security outfit which ideally should be complementing the activities of the statutory security services authoritatively confirmed the fear and suspicion of the people that it has become a safe haven for daredevil cultists and some of the PDP thugs who have been on the wanted-list of the police on the account of their past criminal activities.

“It was gathered that the Governor Adeleke-led administration is using a decoy to arm the party’s political thugs with a directive to unleash terror on the members of the opposition and their supporters.

“The number of the anomalies traceable to the Amotekun nefarious activities under Omoyele is legendary ranging from the recruitment of thugs, cultists and dismissed police officers; usurpation of police constitutional roles through unlawful arrest, detention and prosecution of innocent citizens; economic sabotage through interception, arrest and extortion of trailers of rice coming into the state thereby creating economic hardship through price rises of the food stable; illegal dabbling into marital issues; rivaling and ridiculing the police and other security agencies; and illegal arrests and extortion of gold miners thereby causing blockades to state revenue generation.

“Definitely acting to type, the Osun Amotekun Corps commenced massive arrest and detention of traditional chiefs, believed to be members of the opposition APC at Itaapa, in the Atakumosa-East Local Government Council Area of Osun State. No fewer than ten prominent traditional chiefs, from the town, Itaapa, are currently in Amotekun custody in Osogbo, the state capital, over trumped up allegations.

“Multiple credible sources from the community hinted that Chief Adeyeri Olalekan, Chief Adeyeri Ladele, Chief Adeyeri Adeyeye, Chief Ariyo Dare
and Chief Ogunsola Oladele are being detained in Amotekun detention facility in Osun over the allegation of unlawfully organising local security for the community.

“The chiefs were arrested last Tuesday and granted administrative bail but were later invited and re-arrested on Sunday by the retired Chief Superintendent of Police who at a time acted as the Chief Security Officer to Governor Adeleke, Field Commander of Amotekun Corps, Mr Adekunle Omoyele, who has a history of human rights violation while in service and was gravely indicted and recommended for prosecution and demotion by the Report on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other matters.

“We appeal to the Inspector-General of Police and the National Security Adviser(NSA) to urgently come to the aid of the oppressed inhabitants of Osun State who are being traumatised by the illegal activities of the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps”, the party added.
