..promises oyo state a cardiovascular centre soon
Prince (DR) Azeez Popoola Adeduntan, the OSI BASORUN OF Ibadan land is presently in London at a forum with other cardiovascular surgeons throughout the world,to discuss issues of rising sudden death among young Africans.
The meeting of the International College of Surgeons is holding at Westminster LONDON, United Kingdom from Monday, august 5th to Friday 9th august 2024.
Speaking with selected journalist after the first session of the forum, Adeduntan identified causes of sudden death especially in Africa which includes silent heart attacks, uncontrolled high blood pressure, pulmonary embolism (throwing of clots from the lower extremities to the lungs), stroke, uncontrolled diabetes, morbid obesity,
elevated levels of lipids especially cholesterol in the blood streams, sedentary lifestyles, lack of exercise, smoking, among others.
He added that various problems were variously discussed as well as how sub National and national government, especially in Africa, can intervene to prevent the scourge among the youths who are the productive workforce in any society.
According to him, “It is instructive to note that a former Nigeria head of state, 2 0yo state speakers ,a senator from Anambra state ,a House of Representatives member from OYO state, all succumbed to this heart related and non related problems before reaching age 60years including myriads of unknown NIgerians.
” As part of the resolutions of this scourge, early diagnosis and prompt treatment, risk factors modifications, and a cardiovascular centre are extremely important.”
The Cardio Vascular Surgeon turned politician made a promise of a dedicated cardiovascular centre for OYO state as a consortium to alleviate this scourge in the near future.
It would be recalled that Adeduntan before now had been saying this notably when he was oyo state health commissioner.
Dr Adeduntan as Oyo State commissioner for health -under late Governor Abiola Ajimobi (2017-2019) was the first to Launch a state Health insurance agency in Nigwria, now being enjoyed by the rich and the poor in Oyo state, one of the factors that had increased hospital and emergency room visits by all inhabitants of the state.
Addressing current health issues in Oyo state, he said while it is important to build health care centres around by national and sub national government to take care of minor ailments and catch diseases early, it must be done contemporaneously with dedicated secondary and tertiary medical centers for
complete Heath care delivery. Health care is not episodic. It is a CONTINUUM .
“A sub-national and national GOVERNMENT that embarks on building health care centers alone, without paying attention to secondary and tertiary centres is on a wild goose chase and a fool’s errand of incomplete heath care delivery, similar to building primary schools without secondary schools and universities.
Health is wealth all over the world.”
The 2023 screened and cleared 2023 governorship aspirant concluded by advising state and national governments to increase budgetary allocations for health to increase the life spans of Nigerians and reduce capital flight through medical tourism
The conference ends tomorrow august 9th 2024.
“May NIGERIA succeed.”
