Governor Sanwo-Olu Signs Lagos State Electricity Bill 2024 into Law,
..Commends Hon. Sabur Oluwa-Led Committee for a Job Well Done
Today, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, signed the Lagos State Electricity Bill 2024 into law, heralding a transformative era in the state’s energy sector. The new legislation, a result of collaborative efforts, is set to redefine power generation, distribution, and regulation in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, chaired by Hon. Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended their diligence and commitment to the successful passage of this landmark bill. This law will change the energy narrative of Lagos.
The Lagos Electricity Law 2024 is designed to reduce the state’s reliance on the national grid by enabling sustainable energy solutions such as gas, solar, wind, and off-grid systems. It also establishes a State Electricity Authority to oversee reforms and create opportunities for private sector participation, attracting investments and fostering economic growth.
This bold step is expected to double Lagos’ economic capacity while ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the state, including remote areas. The public hearing organized by the committee in June 2024 was instrumental in shaping the legislation.
