Folowing the decion by the Olubadan in Council to install Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola as the new Aare of Ibadanland, the spokesperson, authentic Mogaji’s of Ibadanland, Mogaji Olawale Oladoja said it would be an act of ungratefulness for Ibadanland not to give honour to whom its due.
Mogaji Olawale Oladoja at a press conference on Saturday morning expressed displeasure to what he described as unfair and act of paying good with evil as demonstrated with the inability to recognize the goodwill and all efforts made by Governor Makimde towards the development of Ibadanland and most especially, the completion of Olubadan’s palace.
According to Oladoja, Governor Seyi Makinde directed eleven Ibadan local government chairmen to raised fund for the completion of the palace.
He stated that at the end of the exercise, a whooping sum of five hundred and eighty five million naira was realised and given to the committee in charge of the palace building.
Oladoja added that Governor Makinde personally gave out another two hundred and fifty million naira to the committee while another two hundred million naira again was given to the leadership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigene (CCII) for other running expenses.
“It is also important to add that Governor Seyi Makinde presented cars to all Ibadan newly appointed Obas.
“One can now wonder why someone who has contributed to such magnitude was denied honour by his dear own people. I want anyone with verified informations of anyone who has done so much for Ibadanland than Gov Makinde,
Oladoja while commenting on the decision by Olubadan in Council described Oba Hamidu Ajibade of playing double standard by being so close to Governor Seyi Makinde and at the same time working against the interest of Governor Makinde.
He called on prominent Ibadan high chiefs to intervene in ensuring that Ibadan culture and tradition are uphold, and not mix it with politics.
The spokesperson said most of the problems confronting the culture and tradition can be traced to over ambition of Oba Hamidu Ajibade and his eye service.
“I’m using this medium to call on High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, Oba Olakulehin, Oba Adebimpe, Oba Ajibola to once again look at the decision. Olubadan in Council should not be about about removing or suspending Baales and Mogajis but doing it the right way as it’s been witnessing now.”
He also challenged roles being played by CCII and advised them not to be all about partying and merry making but be a check on activities that can assist in the development of Ibadanland.
Mogaji Oladoja said he has nothing against the choice of Alhaji Makanjuola Akintola but I’m an Apostle of fairness and Justice.
He also called on Senator Kola Balogun to be wary of Obas and Chiefs who have no geinuine interest of Olubadan but are only out to cause confusion and play to the gallery.
He also cautioned that Governor Seyi Makinde or any of his official should disregard such and event and not attend for any reason.
D-Damak, as he is fondly called by friends and admirers, has succeeded the former Governor of Oyo State, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, as the new Aare of Ibadanland.
The decision was affirmed some days ago at the Olubadan-in-Council meeting
The businessman will be installed alongside his wife, Mariam, who becomes the Yeye Aare of Ibadanland in a grand ceremony that will take place in Ibadan on Monday.
The Aare of Ibadanland is a title reserved for the most qualified individual who, upon receiving the honor, acts like a Prime Minister in the affairs of Ibadan.
The likes of Bishop Akinyele, Archdeacon Oladipo Alayande, Alhaji Arisekola Alao, and Senator Abiola Ajimobi were Aare of Ibadanland in their lifetimes and made good of the title as they used it to the benefit and greatness of Ibadanland.
