All FG Projects Are Federal Character Compliant – Abass-Aleshinloye

A Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, has declared that all projects being undertaken by the Federal Government across the country comply with the Federal Character principle.

Abass-Aleshinloye made the declaration during a press briefing on matters of national importance and at an inaugural meeting with staff of the Federal Character Commission in Oyo State, held at the conference room of the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan.

He explained that the Federal Character principle, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is designed to promote fairness, equity, and balanced representation in the distribution of public offices and socio-economic opportunities across the country. According to him, the commission is committed to ensuring that no section of the country is marginalized in federal appointments, infrastructure distribution, policy implementation, and access to national resources.

The commissioner noted that since the inauguration of the current board on January 22, 2026, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, the commission has intensified efforts to strengthen compliance with the Federal Character principle.

He said the commission has stepped up monitoring mechanisms across federal ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that recruitment, appointments, promotions, and the distribution of social amenities reflect fairness and balanced representation among the states of the federation. Abass-Aleshinloye stressed that the Federal Character principle remains one of the key pillars for promoting unity, national integration, and inclusiveness in Nigeria’s diverse society.

He added that the commission would continue to engage relevant stakeholders and institutions to improve transparency and ensure strict adherence to federal character guidelines. The commissioner assured the people of Oyo State that their interests remain well represented at the commission, noting that efforts are being made to ensure the state receives its fair share of federal opportunities while promoting merit and professionalism in public service.

He also called on federal institutions, political leaders, civil society organisations, and citizens to support policies and initiatives that promote fairness, transparency, and national cohesion across the country. Abass-Aleshinloye further urged staff of the commission in Oyo State to remain professional, committed, and transparent in carrying out their duties to strengthen the implementation of the Federal Character principle.
