Oyo APC to Makinde: Your Plan to Impose a Successor, Dead on Arrival
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has told Governor Seyi Makinde to forget about his plan to install a stooge as the next helmsman who would take over from him on May 29, 2027 emphasizing that the only way the governor could escape from voters’ revolt account of his misdeeds and misgovernance is for him to use the remaining two years in office to seek forgiveness and correct most of his wrong actions.
Oyo APC’s outbursts apparently came against the backdrop of the statement recently credited to Gov. Makinde when he was quoted to have said, at a public gathering, that he would unveil the next executive governor (his successor) in January next year. Some political pundits have described the declaration by the governor as an affront to the people of the state and the main opposition party has now come out to fault it in clear terms.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to pressmen in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC said that the current ugly political situation in Rivers state would not be allowed to happen in the Pacesetter state “regardless of the fact that the Chief sponsor of the crisis in the South South state and Gov. Makinde swim in the same ocean of autocracy in a democracy.
“It is certain that Gov. Makinde would make attempts to foist a stooge on the good people of Oyo state for selfish reasons but the whole world knows that the prospect of a good governor for the state does not lie in Gov. Makinde who has been running a one-man show since May 2019. So, he (Makinde) can only try but he would be disappointed as whoever he presents would be roundly defeated at the poll.
“Apart from the fact that Gov. Makinde would be one of the reasons the PDP might not to be eligible to present a single candidate for the 2027 general election, he has more harms to the umbrella party in Oyo state to the extent that all their structures have been uprooted as the original members are now stripped and disconnected. The supposed State Secretariat at Molete is a ghost place while most of the local government chapters do not have office or meeting venue. Sad enough, l party decisions are taken and imposed on all members by the governor and his closest aide.
“Meanwhile, It is on record that Gov. Makinde served Atiku Abubakar and most of his party’s National Assembly candidates a meal of betrayal, deception and disappointment in the last general election and this will continue to hunt him. As a matter of fact, it is only a naive and wasteful person that who seek to secure the ticket of the Oyo PDP to contest any post in 2027. Technically, PDP is dead in Oyo state with no hope of resurrection in the nearest future.” Sadare concluded.
