Hope Rebirth Sensitizes Students On Drug Abuse, Mental Health, Others

A Non-Governmental Organization, Hope Rebirth, has called on teenagers of adolescent stage to develop self-esteem and shun social vices capable of destroying their future.
Dr. Victoria Iyanda, while speaking on Friday at the Children and Youth Outreach of the organization” Beyond Barrier Forum “organized for secondary school students at Loyola College, Ibadan, emphasized the need to give every child equal opportunity irrespective of gender.
Dr.Iyanda who is the convener of the project, said that Hope Rebirth Mission is envisioned where every child and youth, regardless of their background, has equal opportunities to grow, flourish, and become successful individuals.
She explained that children, teenagers, and youths should be provided with a nurturing environment, psychosocial support at all times.
She maintained that part of the vision is to rescue abused children, help orphans, and work closely with families facing challenges in parenting.
According to her, This NGO, aims at building strong foundations for the holistic development of children, teenagers, and youths. As our name connotes, we want to give hope to orphans and the vulnerable.
“Our mission is to rescue and empower orphans, vulnerable children and youths., providing them with the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. We are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, receives the necessary support, care, and resources to become responsible, resilient individuals who will positively contribute to society.
“Our focus is also to create a gender balance, with a 50% interest in boy child, a lot has been done on the girl child leaving the boy child behind, Our culture is not even helping matters.
“Most homes are getting it wrong with the training of the boy child. These boys are left behind perpetrating a lot of evil in society today, yahoo, idleness, dropouts, issue of rape, frustration, suicide tendencies, gangsterism, gender violence, and revolting against the norms and values of society.
In his Mental health talk, Prof. Adebayo Oluwole, hinted that the Youths with poor mental health will not perform well as they are expected of them.
He enumerated common sources of stress in adolescents, such as social stress, isolation, and substance abuse.
Don, identified feeling depressed, emotional outburst, weight/appetite loss or changes, unhappy, frustration and host others.
He, therefore, enjoined adolescents to build one’s self-confidence,
build positive relationships, be kind and assertive.
In his lecture titled Drug Abuse and Way out, Dr.Tunde Aremu, said that the substance abuse has medical, social, economic and psychological consequences on users, family and in society at large.
He stated that young people who frequently use drugs are more likely to face problems such as academic difficulties, health-related issues, poor relationships with peers, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
He also highlighted the negative consequences of drug abuse, such as violence, rape, suicide, paranoia, poor academic performance, dropping out of school, poor health, Anxiety, depression, sleeplessness and premature death
He also advised parents to be involved in their children’s education, and pay attention to their activities, also to reduce the availability or consumption of drugs.
He called on the youths not to engage in drug abuse but discourage its usage among their peers.
