Democracy Day 2025: Open Letter To The President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu ( GCFR.)
Dear Sir,,
Gladly, we are commemorating today’s June 12 as the 7th Democracy Day in Nigeria.
June 12 of every year is a day that Nigerians, regardless of their ethnicity religion and gender, stood out in unity to vote like never before, for Chief MKO Abiola GCFR, across Nigeria in a landmark election which he won convincingly up to the village of his Opponent in Tofa, Kano State.
June 12, 1993 is an ordinary day in the calendar of the world which became a landmark because a Nigerian contested an election and won but instead of handing him the mandate of that victory it was annulled. !
As we commemorate democracy day, It is pertinent to bring back to memory the history behind the greatest annulment that symbolized the day which up till today remains inexplicably unreasonable.
Sir, it is believably clear to you, the pains and sufferings that Agitators for the reversal of the annulment suffered in the Prisons, in police indiscriminate detentions including military brutalities during the strenuous struggle to reclaim the mandate inherent in the annulled election.
Your notable and heroic participation in the struggle for reversal of the annulment, under the National Democratic Coalition ( NADECO) is recognized, before it became life threatening, as it led to your traveling abroad for safety of life, leaving us behind as foot soldiers to continue the struggle locally till the military leadership surrendered their transition to civil rule to us in 1999.
We, Compatriots in the Campaign for Democracy ( CD) having not forgotten the day, started the remembrance of the day of June 12 at Chief MKO Abiola’s house in Ikeja Lagos.
The CD, particularly, led the yearly commemoration of the day in honour of the Principal of the June 12 election who paid the supreme price with his life for democracy to thrive in the land.
It must be remembered that his wife Kudirat also paid the supreme price with her life on June 4,
A host of other Patriotic Nigerians also died, waging the same struggle for the reversal of the annulled election.
.
As Nigerians celebrate Democracy Day today, they are still not fully satisfied with just changing the date of June 12 to Democracy day.
No doubt, Monuments have been named after the late Principal, Chief M K. O. Abiola having been awarded the highest National Award, ( GCFR).
A prominent National Stadium was named after him and above all, June 12 as Democracy Day was also declared a public holiday. !
Notwithstanding, these are not enough to sail the titanic agitations by Nigerians for the revalidation of that distasteful annulment, most popular, free, fair and free from fear election whose inherent principles are not yet being celebrated.
Oncemore, the celebration of Democracy Day can only be meaningful if in furtherance to the Awards of honours and monuments already bestowed on Chief MKO Abiola, he is officially declared posthumously as the confirmed Winner of the election with his Portrait hanged on the walls of government offices as a former President among his Peers.
Sir, the celebration of June 12 as Democracy Day should always remind the Country and her Citizens of the sacrifices that were suffered by Compatriots for the enthronement of genuine democracy, and fair electoral order,
As we celebrate 2025 Democracy Day during the midterm assessment of your presidency, sir, we should reflect over your achievements under the renewed hope agenda which intertwined with the Hope 1993 mantra.
Your accomplishments are quite many and could be visibly felt by all in these areas :
Your wo Years as president has been committed to the renewed hope agenda mantra which is benefiting the majority of our people.
Notably, since you came on board in 2023, you have achieved uncountably many things in the areas of your election promises while you are still making notable strides beyond your predecessors.
You have strongly taken very hard decisions and introduced tough policies which many are considering very harsh.Though, transient for the moment. These are clearly attempts to correct past faults not caused by you.
Ever since you became the President, you have shown leadership with courage, commitment and ethical compassion strategically leading the people and productively managing the economy.
Nationwide workers strikes have been discouraged among the working class sectors.
Cases of Banditries, Armed Robberies, general Insurgencies and Kidnappings have been strongly minimized against the high levels that your government met them.
Clearly, those who are criticizing your government for the only dual reasons of subsidy removal and Foreign currency floating are unreasonably closing their eyes to the gains of increasing revenues which has tripled the revenues accruing to the Sub- National governments and doubly assisted the repayments of loan met by your government while increasing the available funds for government continuity !
Notably, the goodness of the efforts you have made to the admiration of many are re sounding their impacts, making opposition parties and opponents who cherish these efforts to embark on defections into your Party
Happily, there are new introductions in the areas of education, minimal strikes are being experienced from Tertiary institutional Unions, such as no work holdings in ASUU, ASUP with attentions being directed to all health and medical sectors, road infrastructural facilities and transportation Networks for the improvement of the lives of the large population of Citizens and the economy.
Abandoned and uncompleted Projects by previous administrations are being revived and completed thereby generating huge employment for the working class. Also, you have been showing renewed commitment to the restructuring mantra for the advancement of the Nation, State Police, Forest Rangers, Local Government Autonomy and Student loans are being undisguidely introduced without fear including, laying solid foundations for National growth and sustainable development.
We shall look forward to more successes in government future programs and policy implementation that will halt all insecurity, wage undisguised war against hunger and poverty, build strong democratic institutions and midwife renewed electoral processes that will be fair, free from fear and credible.
