APC Transition Committee Denounces Obaseki Government For Document Non-Presentation

In a recent development regarding the transition of power in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Transition Committee, headed by former Deputy Governor Dr. Pius Odubu, has confirmed that the outgoing government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has yet to provide essential documentation for a smooth transition. This delay is reportedly affecting the committee’s ability to execute its mandate effectively.

Following the recent gubernatorial elections in Edo State, the APC Transition Committee commenced its work, aiming to ensure a seamless handover of governance. However, the committee has raised concerns about the lack of cooperation from the outgoing PDP administration.

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the APC Transition Committee, Barr. Patrick Ikhariale, the committee underscored that they officially reached out to the outgoing government on October 18, requesting a comprehensive list of documents vital for the transition process. Key documents requested include:

– All Assets and Liabilities of the Edo State government.
– A detailed report on all Federation Account Allocation Committee and Internally Generated Revenue from 2020 to date.
– Information regarding maturing legal obligations and the total indebtedness (local and foreign) from 2020 to date.
– A complete list of all approved contracts by the state government from 2020 onwards.

Despite the absence of these documents, Barr. Ikhariale assured the public that the committee is diligently working to fulfill its responsibilities.

The statement also addressed various rumors spreading in the public domain, particularly claims suggesting that the committee requested sitting allowances and portrayed its members as technologically inept. These assertions, according to Ikhariale, are “vexatious,” “insulting,” and “completely misleading.” He emphasized that such issues were never discussed during their plenary sessions.

In light of the misinformation circulating, the APC Transition Committee has appealed to the public to disregard these false narratives, urging well-meaning citizens to focus on the facts rather than speculation.

As the transition period unfolds, the APC Transition Committee remains committed to facilitating a seamless handover for the benefit of Edo State. However, the cooperation of the outgoing Obaseki administration is crucial for this process. With the committee’s dedication and public support, there is hope for an efficient transition that will set the stage for future governance in the state.
