Ibadan Based Business Tycoon, Sukazeem Backs Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar Over Propose Six-Year Single-Term Rotational Presidency
An Ibadan based businessman and fomer ally of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election winner, Bashorun MKO Abiola, Alhaji Sufianu Kazeem has thrown his weight behind former Nigeria Vice President, Atiku Abubakar over his recent letter to the National Assembly on the propose six year single term and rotational presidency in Nigeria.
Alhaji Kazeem popularly called Sukazeem while granting interview to journalist at the departure wing of Muritala Muhammed Airport said it is not too late for former Vice President to push for such proposal as a leader in the country.
Alhaji Sukazeem stated that such a proposal should be consider by the National Assembly especially as it is coming from a long standing politician and elderstateman.
The elderstatesman explained that Atiku’s proposal should not only be limited to the President but also to state governors, National and State assembly.
He further said that like the president, governorship candidates must also be spread across every zones within the state adding that it must also reflect in each of the parties.
He called on Alhaji Abubakar and other leading politicians in Nigeria to join hands with President Tinubu to move the nation forward.
Alhaji Kazeem added that Presidential candidate should be picked from the six geo-political zones of the nation for justice, equity and fairness.
He counselled Atiku Abubakar to shelve aside his high ambition of governing the country but seeks a better way of contributing his quota to the development of the nation.
He called on all other political parties to come together and stop hate speech that could damage the nation before they get to the governance of the nation.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has proposed a six-year single-term rotational Presidency between the southern and northern regions of Nigeria.
In a letter to Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Atiku sought that his proposal be considered in the ongoing constitutional amendment process by the National Assembly.
The letter dated August 29, 2024, but which became public this week was signed by Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former Vice President sought that paragraph ‘a’ be added to Section 130 (1) of the 1999 Constitution to read thus: “The office of the President shall rotate among the six geopolitical zones of the Federation on a single term of six years flowing between the North and South on the single term of six years respectively.”
He also sought that Section 135 (2) be amended to read: “Subject to the provisions of subsection 1, the President shall vacate his office at the expiration of a period of six years commencing from the date when he has been elected to such office.
