ADEDUNTAN ADVISES GOVERNOR MAKINDE TO LET IBADAN POLY BE, ALLOW OLUNLOYO TO REST IN PEACE

PRINCE(DR) AZEEZ ADEWOLU POPOOLA GBADEGESIN ADEDUNTAN-ONISILE-the OSI BASORUN OF IBADAN LAND,had advised Governor seyi MAKINDE to listen to the pleas of IBADAN POLYTECHNIC Students, the alumni of the institution ,well meaning OYO state citizens and other well meaning Nigerians and revert back the recently renamed VICTOR OMOLU POLYTECHNIC BACK TO HER ORIGINAL name of THE IBADAN POLYTECHNIC.

This is contained in a release to the media by the office of PRINCE(DR)Azeez ADEDUNTAN-the OSI BASORUN OF IBADAN LAND TODAY

While it is the prerogative of the GOVERNMENT to give name or rename her institutions ,it should be done with care and due diligence efforts for established academic institutions, in order not to ruin or distort the career pathways of current and old graduates of such institutions.

OSI Basorun ADEDUNTAN -a Harvard UNIVERSITY, trained board certified international cardiovascular surgeon views with disdain the current pedestrian behavior of current Nigerian leadership at the national and sub national levels in renaming established academic institutions with new names without due regards to the dangers inherent.

“As an Ibadan man ,we all respected OLUNLOYO ‘s ‘brilliance (my role model) and contribution to THE IBADAN POLTECHNIC academic growth and development.

“We are all proud of him-but this is moot ,compared to the academic injuries, pain and emotional suffering of old and current students of IBADAN POLYTECHNIC who will be carrying throughout the world a certificate with different names that can be challenged in and outside NIgeria whether it is fake or genuine.

Osi Basorun ADEDUNTAN advised GOVENOR MAKINDE as a victim who does not want this to happen to any student-alumni or current student of any academic institution anywhere in the world.

PRINCE(DR) AZEEZ ADEWOLU POPOOLA GBADEGESIN ADEDUNTAN -ONISILE attended the then UNIVERSITY of IFE medical school from 1974-1981 ,before the institution was changed to OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY ;after the demise of chief AWOLOWO

ADEDUNTAN left NIGERIA for the USA in 1985 for further studies at COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY in New York and HARVARD UNIVERSITY medical schools BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS

To date ,UNIVERSITY of IFE MEDICAL SCHOOL no longer appears in the list of medical schools in NIGERIA and the world.

At every meeting or interview ,ADEDUNTAN needed to attach an affidavit to show that IFE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL is the same as OAU medical school,so as not to be labeled a fraud or carrier of fake certificates.

ADEDUNTAN will never keep silent and allow this unnecessary name change to happen to any one.-“IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG ;SAY SOMETHING “.

ADEDUNTAN recalled that when EX PRESIDENT JONATHAN renamed UNIVERSITY of LAGOS to MKO ABIOLA UNIVERSITY,the althe federal GOVERNMENT to a standstill.

I shudder to think how GOVERNOR Makinde would have felt ;were he to be carrying MKO ABIOLA UNIVERSITY certificate instead of university of LAGOS that he attended.

This is without any prejudice to MKO ABIOLA greatness and sacrifice for NIGERIA,same with OLUNLOYO,same with OBAFEMI AWOLOWO

The then university of IFE alumni accepted OAU because of the towering figure of OBAFEMI AWOLOWO and his unmatched records ;as well as MILITARY DICTATORSHIP

We are now in a constitutional democracy where the constructive wishes of the public matter.

Up till today, I and many others still insist that we attended the university of ife ,not obafemi AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY.

There are other monuments that Nigerian politicians can name after past GOVERNORS or leaders of GOVERNMENT.
but not established academic institutions that have embossed names.

Established institutions’ names matter all over the world.

In light of the foregoing
OSI BASORUN ADEDUNTAN appealed to GOVERNOR Makinde and his guardian angels ;to allow wise counselling to prevail, just like ex president JONATHAN did for the sake of old and current students of this more than fifty(50)years old institution ;known all over the world,by reverting back to the status quo ante-THE IBADAN POLYTECHNIC.

He will lose nothing by doing so but will be applauded, and judgment of history will be kind to him.

“I believe GOVERNOR Makinde knows that power is transient.if he does not revert immediately, future GOVERNMENTS will do so because the name change is patently unacceptable and unnecessary.

ADEDUNTAN solidarizes with Ibadan poly students on this issue without any equivocation.

To remain silent as a former victim
of institutional name change ;will be unwise, unpatriotic as well as uncharitable.

“May GOD guide GOVERNOR MAKINDE rightly on this issue-ADEDUNTAN concluded.” I’m
