Tuesday November 28, 2023
A group, Concerned Oyo State Indigenes, has again urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to spread political appointment to other parts of the country.
The group in a statement through its spokesperson Olaide Olapade on Tuesday while reacting to recent appointment by President Tinubu of Chief Pius Akinyelure, a long time associate of the President.
The group stated that it becomes Important for the President to look beyond his long standing politica and close associate especially those of Lagos based while making critical appointment.
Olapade said appointment aside from reflecting national pattern should shows that every states in the Southwest is considered.
In it’s words “we are so bothered by the continue one sided appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has since coming on board has been appointing long time friends and associate into the key positions in his government.
“It is important to call the attention of the President to this or those working close to him. Many of those that worked for Tinubu assiduously in their various states were yet to be considered for anything while friends and associates of the President continues to benefit what is not due to them.
” This is the second time in the state of four days that we are coming out with our stand and we hope, this will be given all the consideration it deserves.
“Our group had noticed a very dangerous trend of how those that worked for Tinubu from other states , Oyo State inclusive have been sidelined from the majority of the Presidential appointments announced so far.
“The most recent is that of Pius Akinyelure, a long time close friend of President Tinubu who had been in the service of NNPC since 2016.”
Akinyelure and President Tinubu shared many things in common apart from being a politician, both are certified accountants and has worked with Mobil oil, Akinyelure retired from Mobil Oil Nigeria on June 1, 1997 unlike Tinubu who had retired earlier.
The group emphasised that the appointments should spread out to other states because if not, it will look as if Lagos is the only state not the entire region.
CIOS stated that while it’s not advocating for any particular politician, it is necessary for President Tinubu to honour several agreements and promises made to those that worked for him.
“For instance in Oyo State, everyone knows the role played by Governor Seyi Makinde through the formation of G-5 Governors who frustrated the chances of their own Presidential candidate for President Tinubu to triumph, with the recent development, one may asked, if Gov Seyi Makinde is being allowed to choose that will also represent his interest and that of the state at the federal level.
“While we will not stop making this noise, we believe President Tinubu will retrace his steps and do that which is right to all that deserves it,” the statement concluded.
