The mother of the immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Mrs Muyinat Mimiko has passed away.
It was gathered that she died on Friday night during a brief illness at her residence in Ondo, at the age of 88.
An aide of the former governor, Mr Paul Akinduro, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Saturday said the octogenarian died on Friday night.
He said, “The 88-year-old mother of former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Mama Muinat Mosekola Mimiko, fondly called ‘Iye Ruka’ has gone to rest. We will miss her dearly.”
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and other eminent Nigerians have reacted to the development.
In a statement issued by the State Commissioner for information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo, the governor described the death of Mimiko’s mother as a painful loss.
The statement read, “With a deep sense of loss, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, on behalf of the government as well as the people of Ondo State, shares this moment of loss with his school mate, a friend of decades and immediate predecessor in office. Mr Governor considers mama’s exit a personal loss.
“Undoubtedly, her exit has created an irreplaceable vacuum in the family and her immediate environment.”
Similarly, the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, in a condolence message through his Media Aide, Dayo Joseph, said he was deeply touched by the death of mama.
“I am deeply touched by the passing away of your mother and I join the entire Mimiko family to celebrate her life,” Alasoadura said.
The senator representing the Ondo South Senatorial District, Nicholas Tofowomo has also commiserated with former governor on the death of his mother.
the virtues of the late Mrs. Mimiko, describing her as a special mother who stood by her children during difficulties until death took her away.
Senator Tofowomo prayed to God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
