It is unbelievable and shocking that I will be writing this special Tribute now ,not because of your 84th birthday or your 53rd coronation anniversary, but because of your sudden departure to the land of your ancestors. During my last gubernatorial campaign in the build up to the 2019 general elections, I visited Oyo palace to seek your blessing and support.
I never knew I was truly also an Oyo prince until you exclusively narrated to me including my entourage.. You instructed me to come and sit right beside you on the royal podium, and there you began the narratives. “onisile was an Alaafin of the Yoruba Oyo Empire during the eighteenth century.
Onisile succeeded Amuniwaiye as ruler of the Oyo Empire.According to tradition, Onisile was both a great warrior and artistic. He reportedly had seven silver doors made to the seven entrances of his sleeping apartment.
He brought the use of cowries to the oyo throne and riding of horses by later ALAFINS.Alaafin Onisile reigned from 1742 to 1750.
Alaafin Onisile gave birth to three children Olukayode, Olupoyi and a female.
Olupoyi during the internecine war in Yorubaland migrated from Oyo to Oja Oba Ibadan during the reign of Iba Oluyole and gave birth to ADEDUNTAN AND ADENIYI as well as a daughter.Olukayode migrated to Lanlate, now represented by Onilala Of Lanlate.
The lady among them migrated to OKEOGUN.
Today Onilala and Olupoyi descendants are closely in touch.” Same with ATIGINSI ROYAL HOUSE OF OYO.
This history has been narrated many times at my father’s OLUPOYI’s compound at OJA OBA ,Ibadan, but now corroborated by My Revered Father Alaafin Adeyemi 111 ,the encyclopedia of royal knowledge when I visited the palace in 2019. Baba said to me, “You Are An Oyo Prince, let your entourage sit down in the main bowl of the hall. You should come up and sit by my side.“You need no chieftaincy title.
“Anywhere.“You are an OYO PRINCE.” As you journey to your ancestors, May Almighty Allah be pleased with Kaabiyesi Adeyemi 111.
We will miss You.Prince Azeez Popoola ADEDUNTAN of ATIGINSI ROYAL HOUSE OF OYO and OSIBASORUN OF IBADAN LAND.
