The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday said that it has arrested a suspected criminal.
NSCDC noted that one Onome Samuel, a 21-year-old male, from Delta State was arrested for robbery.
The command said that the suspect was arrested with a locally made pistol on 29 July, 2021, around Olomi Academy area of Ibadan over phone theft.
NSCDC Commandant in Oyo State, Michael Adaralewa, who paraded the suspect, insisted that Samuel and his three-man gang specialized in robbing the innocent citizens of their properties.
Adaralewa stressed further by saying that the other two members of the gang, Sodiq and Toheeb, who were at large at the time of the arrest, are based in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
He added that Samuel confessed that he connects with his team on the phone when they have an operation.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect, according to Adaralewa, includes one locally made pistol, which he said he bought for N50,000 and four live cartridges.
He explained further that the suspect would be handed over to the police after proper investigation.
“After the completion of the investigation the suspect will be handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and prosecution.
“Though NSCDC has the mandate to prosecute any criminal offences but because it involved robbery and two (2) other suspects were at large, this will enable the police to probe further on the activities of the suspect who came to rob in Ibadan from neighbouring state,” he said.
