Oyo state Governorship hopeful and the Osi Bashorun of Ibadanland -Chief Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan has advocated stiffer penalties against perpetrators of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the country.
This statement was contained in a release by his media office in Ibadan today.
Chief Dr. Adeduntan while reacting to series of recent Gender Based violence in some parts of the country especially in Oyo State said there is a need for capital punishment for perpetrators of GBV.
He said only stiffer penalties would put an end to the incessant bestial attitude of some men against women as according to him, rape is on the increase and the appropriate measure to check it is through capital punishment – as is done in CHINA,Malaysia and SAUDI ARABIA.
The international cardio vascular surgeon and founder Dr Azeez Popoola Adeduntan Foundation ,as well as President-RILGA LLC-a professional corporation in the USA & Nigeria,condoled with the families of Late Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa a 100 level student of Microbiology department, University of Benin, Edo State and two of his constituents -Late Bello Barakat, a student of Federal college of Agriculture and Crop Production, Ibadan as well as the late post graduate student of University of Ibadan -Azeezat Shomuyiwa whose head was smashed with stone ,by yet to be identified assailants.
“I am advising those who were involved in this shameful act to desist from this cruel behavior as this could be their sister ,mother or relatives,and above all,it is satanic and ungodly”.
He advised the police to track down the culprits with reasonable promptness,so as to dissuade future “copy cats” and potential rapists from doing so. He prayed to almighty GOD to grant eternal repose to the victims souls and comfort the families.
