The Oyo State House of Assembly has held a Public hearing on Oyo State Security Network Agency bill 2020. The hearing was held at the House of Chiefs Parliamentary Building Secretariat Ibadan to get inputs from concerned stakeholders.
Recalled that Oyo State hosted the South West Security summit in June 2019 been the first of it kind, which brought the governors of South West to speak with unison that the security initiative is imperative going by the security situation in the region, this led to inauguration of the South West Security Network (SWSN) , codenamed AMOTEKUN which was launched on 9th of January 2020.
Going by the level reactions trailing the new security initiative, the concerned states decided to give it legislative support, leading to Oyo State House of Assembly passing the bill for first and second reading which made public hearing a prerequisite for it third reading.
The Public hearing which took place on Monday simultaneously in the six South West States considering the security challenges facing the society which includes kidnapping, ritual killings,women and child harassment
The public hearing attracted dignitaries such as representative of the Ona Are KanKanfo, Vigilante groups of Nigeria , OPC groups as well as Meyiti Allah cattle breeders association of Nigeria who came up with different memoranda.
The speaker Oyo state house of assembly Hon.Rt Adebo Ogundoyin in a speech delivered by Hon. Fadeyi Muhammed representing Ona Ara State Constituency the Deputy Speaker Oyo State House Of Assembly, Lauded the governor of Oyo state, Engr.Seyi Makinde for the series of steps taken to ensure security in all and sundry.
The speaker urge every participant to make judicious use of the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the process of having practicable and enforceable people oriented Law on Oyo State Security Network Agency, which will assist in curbing crime and criminality In our society.
He added that, members of Oyo State “Amotekun” corps when in operation would not undermine the activities of members of the security Agencies but rather would complement their services.
In his short remarks, Hon.AkeemObadara, the chairman house committee on Security and Strategy, appreciated the governors of the south west State for the initiative that shows the readiness and concern for the wellbeing of the citizens of their various state.
The Chairman Meyetti Allah cattle breeders association of Nigeria, Oyo State Alh. Yaqub Bello applauded the initiator of the new security network, especially, Engr.Seyi Makinde.
He added that they are not scared of Amotekun because they are not criminals
He affirmed that Amotekun corps is not created because of Fulanis.
” We have been in oyo state over 40years now , we are married to yorubas that makes us one” he said, requesting for the Fulani’s to be enlisted among the Amotekun corps in other for them to fetch out the fake among them.
