Oshiomole: IGP maintain peace between warring APC group

Aftermath of conflicting court orders, the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Friday doused the tension gripped All Progressives Congress (APC) as he directed the pro and anti Oshiomole groups to sheath their sword.

The Police boss who mediated between the two groups at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday also directed the two groups to stay away from the party national Secretariat.

The complex is now being taken over by armed Policemen and other security operatives.

The face off in the ruling party erupted following an Abuja High Court order on Wednesday that restrained Oshiomole from parading himself as the APC national chairman but by Thursday another Federal High Court in Kano lifted the suspension.

On the strength of the Wednesday order, a detachment of Police took over the APC Secretariat and restrained human movement within the party office to only Secretariat staff and Journalists, while party members and visitors were barred from the complex.

By Thursday, when Oshiomole secured the Kano High Court order vacating the Abuja High Court suspension, arrangements were made for Oshiomole to resume work on Friday, but the opposing group vowed to stall Oshiomole from taking over the Secretariat party based on the Abuja High Court order.

On the strength of the brewing tension, it was gathered that the two groups approached the Police boss for cover, a development that he cashed on to mediate between the two groups.

The Nation gathered that the Inspector General of Police held a meeting with the two groups at Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.

It was gathered that Oshiomole led a faction of National Working Committee (NWC) to meeting while The National Vice Chairman, North East, Comrade Salihu Mustapha led the other NWC members to the meeting.

Our source at the meeting told The Nation that both parties were armed with their court order and none was ready to shift ground. It was at that point that the IGP directed that the two groups should stay away from the party Secretariat.

Police and other security operatives who had been at the party Secretariat since Thursday were later re-inforced with a team from the Department of State Security Service (DSS).

Party staff who reported for work on Friday were not granted assess to their offices as the main entrance to the Secretariat complex was placed under lock and key.

Some party members who came to the Secretariat were also turned back from the gate by armed Policemen who have been keeping vigil on the Secretariat since Tuesday.

Newsmen were also barred enrtance to the Secretariat.

No fewer than Fifteen Hilux trucks with armed police men are stationed within and around the party Secretariat. A Rapid Response Squard (RRS) Peougeot car and a hot water sprinkler truck were also strategically parked along the deserted street that lead to the Secretariat.

By 4:24pm on Friday an advance team of five motorbike riders fully armed also arrived the Secretariat and took position while another team in two Hilux trucks stormed the party Secretariat.
