The Caretaker Chairman, Oke’badan North LCDA Alhaji Ganiy Omotoso has urged traders at the Eleyele international market to cooperate with the LCDA administration in his plans to reconstruct the market to a modern standard market.
The caretaker chairman made this appeal while addressing journalists at the Eleyele secretariat office of the Council.
Alhaji Omotoso who explained that having created the local council development authority three years ago alongside others, the concept is to bring govt more close to the people and ensure even distribution of democratic dividends.
He said after sharing of assets between the Ibadan North west local government and Oke’Badan LCDA, the only asset is Eleyele market which is at the stage of total collapsed and turned to den of criminals with many unholy activities going on like a jungle.
Alhaji Omotoso said the rebuilding of the market becomes important in order to generate income and fulfilled it’s responsibility to the people as well as complementing the effort of the Engr Seyi Makinde led government in the state.
“In 2008, the local council administration in Ibadan North West local government decided to rebuilt the market but was taken to court by the shop owners and the judgement which was delivered was that the shop owners be compensated.”
“The then administration could not fulfilled this until the step by the current administration he is currently leading.”
“Since 2008,the allotees have paid their ground rent to the local government and private people has taken over the shops and now uses as residential while they paid to unrecognized agents until now.”
He added that the council began process of rebuilding the market seven months ago with plans to pay compensation to rightful shop owners.
He said rebuilding the market will assist the council in generating revenue for implementing some of it’s people oriented projects, conducive environment, IGR for the council and beautification of the road.
The council Boss assures that some of the shop owners will also be considered after the twelve months completion of the international market even after compensating them.
The caretaker chairman expressed surprised to the turn of event occassioned by the change of attitudes of some of the shop owners even several meetings and signing of different agreements and court papers.
The lawyer to the shop owners also corroborated the chairman and appealed to the traders to give peace a chance.
