The lawmaker representing Afijio state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Seyi Adisa has advised Governor Seyi Makinde to tap into fund coming through diasporan communities to develop the state.
He expressed that the step will assist the government to expand its revenue base through foreign direct investment in Oyo State.
The lawmaker stated that as the chairman, Committee of Foreign Affairs, it is part of the plans of his committee to organize investment summit in collaboration with relevant committees to bring trade and good relations with foreign missions.
Adisa, who is also a member of Committee on Information, explained that the summit will allow well meaning people in the diaspora to contribute to the development of Oyo State.
He reiterated that over 27 million dollars entered Oyo State through diasporan communities, which many states including Oyo State failed to benefit.
According to him, “last year, over 27 million dollars or so entered Nigeria, that is bigger than a lot of revenue from oil and other sources but until we organize and find ways of bringing these big funds for development.
We have many successful Nigerians all over the world and we need to tap into it.”
Seyi Adisa, a lawyer added that his committee is expecting to see more collaborations and partnership with foreign missions in Nigeria to make it happen.
