In its effort of curbing the socio economic difficulties occasioned by the raging COVID 19 pandemic, the much publicised Extended Special Public Works Program initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria has been inaugurated in Oyo State.
The programme is also designed to mitigate the effect of lack of job through
a short-term engagement of one thousand unemployed persons per Local
Government Area for a period of three months.
The committee is Chaired by Hon. Ope Salami with Rt. Hon Ojo Joshua Olagunju as Vice Chairman.
Others are Olayinka Olayemi, NDE State Coordinator as Secretary; Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji; Oba Abdulganiyy Ajagungbade, Rev. Ogedengbe Idowu, Jafani Aminat, Pastor Akanmu Benjami, former Chairman, CAN (Oyo); Alh. Kunle Sanni, Chairman, NSCIA (Oyo); Alhaji Abideen Olajide, Chairman, NURTW (Oyo); Oloyede Samuel; Samuel Elizabeth; Folarin Olawale Opeyemi; Okanlawon Folashade; Hon. Wasiu Olatunbosun; Ogunshola Esther; Abodunrin Hammed; Soji Eniade; Barrister Akinremi Sulayan Adewale.
According to the Chairman, Hon. Salami, “the Programme is expected to
provide modest stipends for itinerant workers to undertake roads
rehabilitation and social housing construction, urban and rural sanitation,
health extension and other critical services. Hence, the directives of Mr.
President for the NDE to collaborate with other Ministries with rural
components in their mandates.
“This committee would monitor and supervise identified the projects to be
executed in all LGAs.
The chairman also in his words promised transparency and accountability in
the process as approved selected banks to register and collate data of the
benefiaries will be followed.
“…more Nigerians would be captured in the financial system thereby
enhancing the financial inclusion drive of Government. The president has
also approved the deployment of online technology.
“The technology will allow for robust supervision of ongoing works in various
local government areas, a reliable tracking system for all man and materials
used and robust real-time monitoring system through online feedback…”
The Governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde, represented by Rev.
Ogedengbe Idowu, expressed his satisfaction over the initiative as directed
