The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria , FOMWAN Oyo State chapter has called on millions of Muslims across the world to observe this year’s Ramadhan with renewed commitment and dedication to Allah despite the issue of Coronavirus ravaging the world.
The Oyo State Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Dr, B.B Oloso made the call in her 2020 Ramadhan message issued and signed in Ibadan by the Association’s Media Officer, Alhaji Oyetunji Oyekunle.
Alhaja Oloso said since the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of hell are closed and the devils are chained in the holy month of Ramadhan, it is therefore appropriate for Muslims to increase their devotional acts and pray to Allah to heal the world of the deadly virus.
According to the Amirah, observing Ramadhan is an act of spiritual purification of the mind and the body as well as a way of practicing self restraint in order to attain piety .
She said Islamic faithful must strive to get abundant blessings and rewards promised by Allah in this month despite the restrictions and lockdown occasioned by the virus.
This, Alhaja Oloso maintained would be made possible if believing Muslims recite the Quran which was revealed in this holy month regularly, reach out to the needy and engage in more obligatory and optional acts of worship
” This is a strange and different Ramadhan we have ever witnessed .
Ramadan is about self-improvement, connection with the community , prayers in congregation, public lectures , Tafseer of the Quran and charity.
It is a pity all that won’t be happening this year. Instead of praying and sitting with Islamic faithful in the mosque, people will only be praying at home with their families. This is because It is our duty to keep safe and observe physical distancing as announced by WHO. Covid-19 has changed the way the world is operating. This is so sad.” The Amirah said
FOMWAN Oyo State Amirah therefore stressed the need for Islamic faithful to make good use of the blessed month by turning the strange and different Ramadhan to an opportunity for spiritual cleansing and rejuvenation.
