Above is the title of one of the uncountable philosophical records of the creator of Fuji music genre,Alhaji(Dr.)Chief Sikiru Ayinde Balogun,MFR,alias,’Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’.May his noble soul continue to rest in peace. Amen.
Rascally and pompous people are opportunists whose shifty character often times unfairly get them undeserved plum public offices, and for which they are ready to call a cow brother/sister,in order to stay on the job.
Lately, the equilibrium of the world has been rocked by some rascals, arrogant and pompous lackeys.
Many commentators, writers and reformists, all over the world, have continued to draw attention to the many evils of rascality and pomposity.
In it’s page 8 “GUIDED MISSILE” cartoon of the now-defunct popular Sunday Concord newspaper issue of Sunday,14th April,1987(33 years ago, next Tuesday )the newspaper cartoonist lampooned an “Angry and stubborn” journalist before his appointment/invitation to government, and his “Cool and collected”posture once inside government!
In my book,”SPEAKING FOR GOVERNORS”,an account of my 6-year tenure(1983 to 1989)as the Press Secretary to four (1 civilian and 3 military)Governors of old Oyo State(present Oyo and Osun States of Nigeria),I admonished my successors to be wary of the temptations of office and it’s slippery corridor.
My advice is contained on pages 19 and 20 of my memoir, which was presented to the public on 31st March,1990,at the Premier Hotel,Ibadan,Oyo State,by Chief Nathan Omowale Namme, then the Chairman of the Daily Times of Nigeria. He was the boss of my father, the late Pa AbdulRahim Oladosu Alabi, alias’RIGHT TIME’, at the Daily Times of Nigeria,in the early 1950s.
The said Sunday Concord cartoon is used on page 20 of my book to illustrate my admonition.
Today,in view of the growing, nauseating absurdities(rascality and pomposity) in public and private spaces,my admonition does not stop only at the doorsteps of my dear professional colleagues, but also at the doors of ALL public office holders at home and abroad.
People should stop being rascally and pompous, wherever they find themselves.
