The Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi has described as historical the passage of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed Operation Amotekun into law.
The lawmaker representing Ona Ara State Constituency in the Assembly made the point in an interview with journalists in his office.
He said the initiative of the six South West States governors coming together for the first time in the south West region as a United region to formulate the policy was laudable, adding that the development would bring peace and progress to the people in the states.
According to him, the invention of Amotekun is another giant stride in the South West region which will bring stability to the Yoruba speaking region in the shortest possible time.
“It is good that we are making history in the sense that after a very long time the western region is coming together again as a united region to formulate a policy that has to do with security and lives of the people.
“To me, it is historical because it was what our founding father like the Awolowos Akintolas had fought for along the line but they missed it, and we are back on the blocks coming together under one umbrella regarding the security of the region.
“I am looking forward to more of such in the area of economic growth and infrastructural development like the western region of the old. There is nothing too bad to rekindle what we have in the past since globalization is what is reigning all over the world.
“The land lord Association, traditional rulers, and community leaders are all involved in the Amotekun Security system’ so, the south west will begin to enjoy maximum security from this moment onward, there will be no more armed’ robbery, kidnapping and killing of farmers in our region.”
Speaking on whether other tribes in the state would be considered for recruitment into the Amotekun security outfit, the Deputy Speaker said they area still looking into it adding that it may be included in the regulations of the corps but not Immediately because it is not part of the law.
Hon. Fadeyi then urged the people to cooperate with the government in order to make the projects work out perfectly
