Allow Democratic Governance At The Grassroots, Adeduntan Tells Makinde

The Osi Bashorun Of Ibadanland and 2019 Governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oyo State- Chief (Dr) Azeez Popoola Adeduntan has urged the Oyo State Governor -Seyi Makinde to allow democratically elected Chairmen in the state to complete their terms.

Chief Dr Adeduntan stated this while reacting to the Appeal Court rulling on Tuesday in Ibadan on the case between the Oyo State government and the sacked local government chairmen.

The world revered Cardio vascular surgeon said in the last fourteen months of Governor Seyi Makinde led administration in the state, the people had been denied dividends of democratic governance so much that there is no visible development at the grassroots .

“Notwithstanding the Wednesday pronouncement of the Appeal Court in Ibadan, I believe there can still be dialogue and amicable resolution between the sacked chairmen and the state government in order to restore democratically elected government in our local governments.
We have maintained dignified silence in the last 14 months, not because we don’t have serious concerns about this populist Government for which responses will be made at the appropriate time, but the instant case needs immediate response as it is about constitutional democracy which must be litigated to the final court-the Supreme Court.

The Governor must take a cue from his Ekiti state counterpart -Kayode Fayemi who on assumption of office retained the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen despite being an APC Governor and ensured they saw through their terms .
Subject to and not withstanding the Appellate court’s observation that the instant case is different from EKITI STATE.what is not controvertible is that an election was held.

Chief (Dr) Adeduntan described the current logjam as not too good for the development of the state, calling on the state Governor to be the leader of the whole state and not Governor of PDP only as being portrayed presently by the state Governor.

“Governor Makinde since coming on board last year May ,has been known for one controversy or the other which is greatly stigmatising his government ,though he claimed to be running Pseudo-Populist government yet, controversies have been the order of the day.

As a major stakeholder in the state with numerous supporters across the state, I want to admonish Governor Seyi Makinde to -for the sake of peace allow decency and good reasoning to prevail and allow democratically elected Chairmen across the local governments and local council development areas to resume back to their duty posts and work for the good of the people in their areas.”
