The 2023 Oyo Governorship Hopeful and immediate past state commissioner of health Chief Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan ,has described the demise of the first professor of Medicine -Emeritus at UCH IBADAN-Professor Oladipo Akinkungbe as an end to the brilliant era of medical practice ,not only in Nigeria but Africa continent.
OSI BASHORUN Adeduntan stated this in a release by his media office,in IBADAN,while reacting to the death of the late Emeritus Professor of Medicine.
The former commissioner and the initiator, Oyo State health care endowment fund ,during which Emeritus Professor Akinkungbe served as Chairman, board of trustee of the fund ,expressed sadness over the demise -saying that Nigeria has lost an enviable and erudite leading mentor in medical practice.
The revered international cardio vascular surgeon described the death of Papa Akinkungbe,even at 87 years as a monumental loss adding that it will create a vacuum in the national and international medical circles.
“We will always remember his sterling career ,as evidenced by his practicing and teaching at world’s most prestigeous universities like University of London, Oxford University, Havard Medical school Boston, USA among others.”
Chief Dr. Adeduntan who is also the President RILGA LLC, a professional corporation in the United States of America and Nigeria ,eulogised the great qualities of the late Emeritus Professor who practised medicine for 60 years before hanging his stethoscopes and also pioneered critical clinics in hypertension and renal disorders at UCH, Ibadan.
“His role as the chairman of OYO state healthCARE endowment fund in 2018 ,cannot be over emphasised as the great results of the endowment fund ,scattered across the state”.His chairmanship and that of members of the committee were pro-Bono. Despite his advanced age,he served OYO state GOVERNMENT assiduously and selflessly.
