The Kano State Government has banned the opposite sex from conveying the same transport system.
The policy which had the assent of the Kano State Governor, Ganduje is to take effect from January.
However, the Kano State Government made it known that any commercial tricycles operators from conveying male and female passengers in same vehicle will be sanctioned.
The plan according to the state Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Garba, was set to comply with the Sharia law which would as well prevent attempts of immoral acts.
According to the Commander – General, Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheik Haruna Sani, the action became necessary to address the disregard of Islamic laws by commercial drivers, especially tricycle operators in the name of transacting business. He however made it known that defaulter would be given six months suspension, a N5,000 fine or both which has been backed by the law.
Sani stated that the agency would collaborate with Kano Road Transport Agency and other agencies to ensure strict compliance to the policy.
