One of the leaders of the Oyo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former member, House of Representatives, Abuja on Tuesday insisted that the southwest is due and remains the most qualified region in Nigeria to produce the next president for the purpose of fairness, equity and justice.
Hon Sarumi stated while addressing journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital aftermath his earlier call on the Oyo State Governor, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde to come out and run for the nation’s President.
Hon Sarumi said “looking back to year 1999 when the nation went back to democratic government with former President Olusegun Obasanjo of the Southwest bloc which represented the people of Yorubaland, after which President Musa Yar’dua of the North extraction came but his government shortlived due to his ill-health and eventual death.”
“Former President Gooduck Jonathan came and filled that space of the South South/South East and currently, Buhari is doing the slot of the North.”
The former federal lawmaker advised other zones in the country to respect unwritten agreement which cut across political divides and ethnicity to ensure fairness and balance.
He said anything short of Yoruba Presidency come 2023 may not be tolerated or accepted by the people of the southwest and its friends adding that there is a need to put first the unity and peaceful co-existence of the nation.
