Court Restrains Kano Assembly from Investigating Ganduje over Alleged Bribery

Gov Ganduje 1 2

A High court sitting in Kano has ruled that the Kano House of Assembly lacks the power to investigate the $5 million bribery allegation against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

In a judgement delivered by Justice Ahmad Badamasi on Thursday, he said collecting bribe from contractors is a criminal offence in section 115 and 116 of penal code, and as such the House has no capacity to investigate criminal offences, adding that only agencies under executive arms such as police, the EFCC and the ICPC possess the powers to investigate such offences.

He consequently gave an order restraining the House from interview or inviting any person on the bribery allegation against Governor Ganduje as published by the Daily Nigerian newspaper.

Reacting to the development shortly after the ruling, Chairman of the Seven-member investigative panel constituted by the Assembly to probe the case, Bappa Dan’ agundi, said the House would study the court judgement and take a stand.

“I will not comment on behalf of the House. The House will deliberate on the matter, take a decision and make it public,”he said.

The embattled Governor has been faced with allegations of bribery after an online medium, Daily Nigerian, published a series of video clips, allegedly showing him receiving kickbacks from contractors for projects executed in the state.
